Aerial Thermography

A thermal camera in combination with a drone enables collection of data in the IR spectrum in the construction industry, power engineering and industrial applications. Unmanned vehicles cut down the inspection time and can also operate in dangerous and hardly accessible areas. In the construction industry, you can for example inspect heat dissipation, the quality of building and roof insulation, as well as detect humidity. In addition to the above solar parks inspection, it can also be used for the inspection of electrical power distribution systems and industrial mains and pipelines (even those underground), in which case this method can precisely locate damaged thermal insulation. We further process the collected data to produce thermographic maps and models which can be used for fast localization and diagnostics of defects.

Thermovision Inspection

DJI M600 s termokamerou Wiris

We perform aerial inspections using an unmanned drone equipped with a thermal camera. The camera is controlled by another operator and the data are immediately transmitted to the ground which enables operative inspection of constructions and industrial installations. When mapping a larger area, an autonomous flight mode is used and the camera is automatically operated to make sure the imaging parameters are always observed.

Thermographic Data Processing

The inspection is not finished when the flight is over - what is crucial is the processing of the raw data into a form of usable results. The thermal camera collects a full range of radiometric data, which provide a number of possibilities during the subsequent analysis of images. We can also use photogrammetric methods to process the thermograph into the form of an orthophotomap or a 3D model.

Online Data

In online interface, inspection results are available anywhere and on any device. The browser shows a list of all defects with a marked location, notes to data, and provides tools for an automatic analysis and measuring. If inspections are performed on a regular basis, conditions of individual places at different timescan be viewed and compared.

Visualization can be interactively moved and the scale can be changed using buttons. The scrollbar changes the ratio of images captured by a standard or thermal camera.

  • Intended use - The thermal camera is designed for DJI systems and has been developed in cooperation with FLIR. It is fully integrated into the drone's system, including the power supply, data transmission, remote control, and all settings configured by the pilot using the existing components.
  • Stabilisation - Built-in precise three-axis camera gimbal.
  • Outputs - It captures fully radiometric data, JPEG and TIFF format images, MP4 videos.
  • Sensor - VOx microbolometer, resolution of 640x512 pixels, sensitivity of 50mK, temperature range of -40° to 550°C
  • Function - adjustable temperature range during flight, pallets, temperature alarms, emissivity and other parameter settings

  • Intended use - A thermal camera for universal use in unmanned vehicles. It offers several kinds of data interfaces and, thus, can be integrated in non-standard customized solutions.
